Strikeforce’s first major event under Zuffa ownership was not without its odd moments, but it was dominated by two champs who train together at Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
No. 1 star — Nick Diaz: Throughout their one-round scrap, both Diaz and Paul Daley were wobbled. The difference was in how each fighter recovered. Diaz’s mixture of body shots and strikes to the head added up on Daley, and the damage at the end of the round was too much for Daley to handle.
No. 2 star — Gilbert Melendez: How do you stop a wrestler? By punishing him every time he tries for a takedown. Melendez tagged Tatsuya Kawajiri early with a right hook, and then followed up with punches, kicks, takedowns and elbows until the fight ended with a TKO. He held onto his Strikeforce lightweight championship, but Melendez has his eye on more: the UFC lightweight belt.
No. 3 star — Shinya Aoki: His first fight in the U.S. didn’t go so well, but Aoki has been on a tear since losing to Melendez a year ago. He continued that streak on Saturday, cranking Lyle Beerbohm’s neck until "Fancy Pants" had no choice but to tap.
Honorable mention — Elbows: One of Zuffa’s first changes to Strikeforce after taking over was to remove the ban on elbows. Strikeforce’s fighters responded by using their new weapon with delight. Melendez used short elbows on the ground to finish off Kawajiri and Diaz used them effectively throughout his win over Daley.

Grammy winners Estelle and David Banner debuted their collaboration with emerging talent Daley called “Benz” at the Shanghai Auto Show recently. The trio were invited by Mercedes Benz to commemorate their 125th anniversary.
The song was inspired by Janis Joplin’s classic “Mercedes Benz.”
Meanwhile, Estelle is in the studio preparing her All of Me album which is scheduled to be released later this year.

Making the cross-country flight to the midwest, Demi Lovato touched down at O’Hare Airport in Chicago, IL on Saturday night (April 23).
The “Camp Rock” cutie was fresh off of an outbound trip from LAX Airport in Los Angeles as she chomped on an apple while patiently waiting for her luggage.
The trip to the Windy City comes just after Miss Lovato sat down with 20/20 to talk about her rehab stint and road to recovery from cutting and an eating disorder.
Of her battle with cutting, Demi told, ?It was a way of expressing my own shame, of myself, on my own body. I was matching the inside to the outside. And there were some times where my emotions were just so built up, I didn?t know what to do. The only way that I could get instant gratification was through an immediate release on myself.?
As for her eating disorder, the former Disney star said, ?I was compulsively overeating when I was 8 years old ? So, I guess, for the past 10 years I?ve had a really unhealthy relationship with food.?
On the right track at this point, Lovato told of turning things around, ?I was performing concerts on an empty stomach. I was losing my voice from purging and I literally was so emotionally whacked out that I took it out on someone that meant a lot to me. I take 100 percent full responsibility. The second I kind of came out of my mania and realized what I had done I felt sick. [My family and management team] sat me down and said, ?You can?t live like this. You need to get help.? And that?s exactly what I did.?

Jason “Mayhem” Miller‘s return to the Octagon will take place in July, as he battles Aaron Simpson at UFC 132. The UFC announced the Miller-Simpson fight on Saturday, a day after Miller’s signing with the UFC was confirmed.
There’s no word yet on whether Miller-Simpson will be on the pay-per-view card, but it would be an ideal fight for a Spike TV preliminary bout. Thanks to his brash personality and his status as host of MTV’s Bully Beatdown, Miller was one of the most famous mixed martial artists outside the UFC, and his presence on a basic-cable bout would draw some eyeballs and likely reel in some casual fans to make a last-minute pay-per-view purchase.

"Just find moments for yourselves," Spelling advises, with McDermott suggesting that "PW" and Middleton perhaps build a cave to find some alone time.
And with all that one-on-one time? "The biggest thing is … communication," Spelling says. "You start off communicating well, and day to day you get caught up in life and kids and work, you forget to communicate. Remember to communicate."
And McDermott, showing that he has become the perfectly domesticated husband, suggests that the prince repeat the mantra, "Kate you’re right, Kate you’re right."
Jane Lynch and Lara Embry
The Glee funny lady says her best piece of advice is to offer forgiveness, noting that, "It’s usually your problem anyway."
"If you’re really, really upset, look at yourself first," adds Embry, Lynch’s wife, who is a psychologist.
Khloe Kardashian
The reality show star, who is married to basketball player Lamar Odom, passes on some wise words given to her. "Someone told me to pull my husband aside at your reception, stand in the corner and look back, because everything is such a daze and you’re moving so fast. And you are. You have to talk to every person that’s there, greet them and thank them for coming, so I really appreciated that piece of advice."
As for what to get the couple who has everything, Kardashian recommends what could be a memorable gift: "I think her husband would always love a little sexy lingerie."
Lisa Rinna
Suggesting some guidance for a happy marriage, Rinna goes the Aretha Franklin route: "Respect. It’s almost like a garden. You must get in there and do the work. And sometimes the work is dirty, and sometimes the work is uncomfortable," she says.
Some good advice in there. Now if only all celeb couples — a class of folks not known for their track record of enduring marriages — would take note.
