YBF chick Shonda Rhimes, the creator of "The Practice" and "Grey’s Anatomy," has scored another ABC drama, and this time she’s bringing Kerry Washington as the lead and Columbus Short along for the ride.
Her new series, "Scandal" will focus on the lives of employees at a crisis management firm for celebrities. Kerry will star as Olivia Pope, the head of the firm and a former media consultant to the President of the United States.
Speaking about her new role, she said,
“I was not looking to do a TV show, but I read this amazing script with this amazing woman named Olivia Pope, and it happened to be for TV and so I thought maybe I want to do something different. Once I read it, I wanted to do whatever I had to do to be a part of it.”
Joining Kerry and Columbus are Tony Goldwyn who plays the President, Henry Ian Cusick, Guillermo Diaz, Katie Lowes, Jeff Perry and Darby Stanchfield.
Fans can expect the same great story-driven scripts that Shonda is know for, and she adds that Kerry will bring something special to the show.
“You know, we’re talking about a black female lead of a television show, and we wanted to make sure we had just the right person. Kerry came in and she was just perfect.”

All Strikeforce ?Challengers 17? drug screens have come back negative, the Nevada State Athletic Commission announced Friday.
Twelve fighters in total were tested following their performances on July 22 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, including headliners Bobby Voelker and Roger Bowling. Additionally, Shawn Jordan, Devin Cole, Ovince St. Preux, Joe Cason, Anthony Smith, Bill Cooper, Sterling Ford, Sarah Kaufman, Adlan Amagov and T.J. Cook were also tested and cleared.
All competitors tested were screened for both performance enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse such as marijuana and cocaine. Challengers 17 aired live on cable network Showtime.
Voelker knocked out Bowling in the second round of their welterweight headliner, earning him the deciding victory in their fight trilogy. After reading the synopsis for the episode days before, it looked like Carpenter was the only witch in town, angry over her cheating husband, until Marster uses his own power and hexes. Although I could have gone without the cheesy bee scenario, trying to keep in mind that it was possible given the storyline, watching Sam and Dean attempt to council the married couple was cool. With flower beds turning brown, beating hearts in cupcakes and the nail gun scene, the special effects where awesome. Stepping back a bit – the workout scene with Sam was also funny, while Dean puts back a few hardcore drinks. The only problem is how the conflict between the Winchesters changed so fast. Daniel Cormer was helping teammates Mo Lawal and Luke Rockhold prepare for their Sept. 10 bouts when he was given the opportunity of a lifetime. Alistair Overeem had dropped out of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, and Cormier was being asked to step in and fight Antonio Silva. For Cormier, taking the fight with Silva was a no-brainer.
“Obviously, I had no reservations. I’m a person who thinks things through, and when I weighed out the positives and negatives, there was no reason for me to not take the fight,” Cormier told Cagewriter.
It’s a leap up in competition for the undefeated Cormier. His last bout was a unanimous decision over journeyman heavyweight Jeff Monson. With Overeem’s withdrawal, the tournament has lost one of its biggest names, but that doesn’t bother Cormier.
